Recorded open space deserves lasting protection.
We support renewable energy that respects the forests, habitats, and land-use protections that help make our islands worth protecting.

Recorded protections should not become temporary simply because a new project needs the land.
Who we are
Decatur Neighbors for County-Wide Environmental Stewardship
We are an informal group of Decatur Island neighbors advocating for responsible renewable energy siting and lasting protection of forests and recorded open space across San Juan County.
Our concern begins on Decatur, but the principle matters throughout the islands: environmental stewardship should guide both the energy we produce and the places we choose to produce it.
What we stand for
- Keep recorded protections meaningful.
Open space and habitat protections deserve continuity, transparency, and careful public scrutiny when changes are proposed.
- Put solar in appropriate places.
Prioritize rooftops, parking areas, and already-disturbed land when evaluating sites for new solar development.
- Consider the whole environmental cost.
Renewable energy decisions should account for forests, wildlife habitat, and the long-term health of our island communities.
